Norman and Jake's Story
By Elly Brown
Norman came into our lives in November 2009 after a particularly difficult year for us
Norman - aged 7 - November 2009
My then fiancé, Anthony, had been taken ill in the July and eventually he underwent emergency surgery to save his life in the August. It came at a very unfortunate time as we had arranged to get married in the September, which we ended up having to cancel, and had got two little Scotties lined up to be rescued via Viv at Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme (STECS), who we had to give up before we had even got them.
Anthony was discharged from hospital after 2½ months, to continue his recovery at home. Two months later we received a call from Viv enquiring about Anthony’s health. She advised us that if we were in a better position now, then a little boy by the name of Norman would be available to adopt if we wanted him. This gave us the lift that we both needed. After several months of ill health and worry, knowing that we were eventually going to get a little Scottie of our own really lifted our spirits.
Norman very quickly settled in and made lots of Scottie (and other) friends. He loves his camping holidays, walkies, bones and lots of cuddles. He was rescued from a home with other dogs; therefore we thought that as he was getting older, he may like to have a younger brother or sister. It wasn’t too long when we received the call about Jake. Immediately we agreed that we would love to offer Jake a forever home alongside Norman.
Jake arrived in April 2011 from Ireland
We were told that he was 3 years old. However, we feel that he may be younger as he acts so puppy-like! Norman was not sure about this new youngster at first and there had to be some rules established between them; however Jake appeared to love Norman from the start, following him around wherever he went, and soon picked up good toileting habits.
We are so grateful to Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme (STECS) for supporting us along our journey and helping us to re-home two of the most adorable (and now spoilt) Scotties in the world!!
